Well to be 1-0 down after 7 seconds wasn't the ideal start but our girls put that behind them to play an excellent first half , creating numerous chances and finally one went in when Rian finished neatly from an April cross .
Molly was called upon to make one good save from Kiara but otherwise we were in total control .
Half time was upon us and somehow it was 1-1 . The Derby keeper made some good saves and we just wern't finding the corners .
The second half was another tight affair with Woodlands taking the lead through Rosie after some terrific work by Erin out wide but Derby came back and equalised after we failed to close down quick enough .
Never mind the girls buckled down and took the lead again through Rosie after some superb play by April who had an outstanding game in midfield .
The final whistle blew and the girls had won a very hard fought victory , just the test we needed .
Molly - one good save first half , and gathered well . Good kicking again today
Lottie - solid tackling and some good throw ins .
Esther - back to your best today , covering well and some very sensible distribution
Eloise - a quiet game by your standards Squeezer , but you dug in and did well
April - monumental performance in midfield . Tigerish tackling , superb passing and endless energy . Your best ever game in a Woodlands shirt , well done
Rosie - you were up against a good player today , but after a quiet first half you had a much better second half , not only scoring 2 good goals but tracking back and helping out at the back, well done
Rian - lovely finish for our first goal tucking it beautifully into the corner . You worked hard and gave the Derby defenders plenty to think about
Erin - superb second half performance , dangerous on the break , but also defending from the front which helps out the team enormously . Like April your best game so far
Orla - you have improved so much and regular football has made a vast difference to your game . Good tackling and some excellent distribution down our right flank
Leanne - sorry I couldn't get you on today but as ever you displayed an excellent attitude and cheered your team mates on as normal , well done
The girls had to graft today to get this result which is what they needed as this was the first of 3 tough games in a row. Derby have some good players and our girls raised the bar today in terms of effort and committment non more so than April who epitimised the whole teams gritty and determined performance .
Thank you to Katie Woodward who did very well in one of her first games as ref and went largely un-noticed which is the sign of a good ref , well done Katie .
And a massive thanks to our hardy determined followers who all braved horendous conditions to cheer the girls on to a very good victory .
