Another away day for us today, this time against an improving Calverton team. After last week we knew that we had to work much harder from the kick off and this week we had a game plan and stuck to it for the whole 80 minutes.

The game started in bright sunshine and both teams looked to stamp their authority early on. With a couple of chances at both ends it was Woodlands who got their noses in front on 21 minutes when Georgia latched onto a through ball, knocked it wide of the keeper and swept the ball into the roof of the net. The girls were visably relaxed by the opener and with only another four minutes on the clock, Katie M was put through by Robyn and clipped the ball over the advancing keeper.

The second half began brightly with the girls kicking down the slight incline. After some neat work from Robyn down the right the ball was flashed across the goal with the Calverton defender being unlucky to have the ball hit her arm.

With Katie M off the pitch the penalty duty fell to Emily who spotted up the ball and duly smashed the ball past a very good Calverton keeper.

Three soon became four when another very well delivered corner from Emily was met fully on the volley by Georgia to score the goal of the game.

With a few minutes left on the clock, more good work from the defence, the ball was fed to Emily who slid Katie M through with a pin point pass. Running clear of the defence Katie drew the keeper and flashed a drive high into the net.

The girls had to be sharp and play well against a Calverton team that has improved no end since we played them last year. We knew that if we stuck to the game plan it would allow us to play more effectively and to the girls credit and Amy's we did for the whole 80 minutes.

I believe Calverton will cause many teams real problems through the season so todays result could prove to be a big one.

Well done today to Annie and Grace who both picked up their 50th appearances today which is some achievement.

Todays players of the match were : Ashley, Robyn and Amy who were fantastic and played a part in the overall plan today so well.

The rest of the team who I have not mentioned played so well right throughout the game you ensured the tempo of the game was kept high and showed some real quality in spells today.

Thanks to all the parents who travelled today to give your support to the girls.

Thanks to all the coaches as always as your input is vital.

Many thanks to Calverton M/W for their hospitality after the game and to Dave for reffing who was as always very honest and proffesional.

Proud as always girls
