With three players unavailable for selection we travelled to Priory Celtic with a 14 player squad. The pitch was very small and didn’t really allow for flowing football and this showed when after 20 minutes the score was still 0-0. Finally the deadlock was broken when Georgia managed to wriggle through and fire the ball hope to carry on her fantastic scoring record. Within 90 seconds the ball was flicked on from Katie M to Emily who strode into the box and fired into the corner of the net to make it two. With the girls confidence now growing, Saffy found the ball at her feet and picked out the only available space to make it three. Soon after the girls had a corner which was swung over from Katie M, headed clear to Saff who unleashed an unstoppable drive to make the score 4-0 at the break.
The second half saw Priory really go for it, they pushed several more players forward and credit to them they looked a much better team when they played higher up the pitch and committed a few more players forward. The scoring was finished when Emily committed two defenders and smashed the ball across the face of the six yard box where Hannah met it sweetly to keep up her run of form with three in three games.
Annie : As always you were very solid at the back today, you kept your concentration throughout the game and did very well when you were called upon.
Becky : As a partnership, yourself and Lucy were superb today, very solid and you again covered the back line really well. Although Lucy got the PoM a lot of that was also down to yourself.
Lucy P : Today we needed a captains performance and we got one from you. You were vocal from the outset and along side Bex you were unbeatable.
Ashley : Playing again in a back three you did really well, very confident and always looked to keep the ball. Having a breather and playing you out on the rightwing you also did a great job for the team.
Amy : Nice to have you back in the squad, very solid in the centre of midfield and again you showed your fight when you played at right back, never once allowing anyone to get past you.
Mia : Whatever you are doing away from training to help with your fitness it is certainly helping you. Playing out on the wing you kept possession and set up several key chances.
Georgia
: Now then where do I start. A very well taken goal again to continue your incredible run and you gave us one of the best comedy moments of the season. The good thing is that it didn’t effect you and you saw the funny side of it. Without moments like that, presentation night would be so dull !!!!
Katie W : As always you gave it 100% and ran yourself into the ground for the team. I thought today you were very unlucky not to score.
Saffy : Your second goal was quite a strike today, your all round play again was top notch and were extremely unlucky not to get your hat trick.
Katie M : Right from the off today you caused problems to the Priory defence, when yourself and Emily played close together it ended in a goal. When you were asked to play in the centre of midfield, again you performed and created several good chances for your team mates.
Emily : As is becoming the norm, you ran your socks off for the cause and deservedly scored a great goal which you more than deserved. Getting down the left wing in the second half you were a constant problem to Priory up to the end.
Chelsea
: It was great for me today to see you want the ball more, keep it and then find another white shirt. It meant that you had much longer on the pitch and your confidence is beginning to grow week by week.
Grace : It was a tough decision today to have to leave you out but when you were brought on you were absolute quality. Your composure and attitude is an example to the whole team, you don’t have to big and physical to play nice football and you are a prime example of that.
Hannah : Another player with an attitude that is second to none. You turn up to training, work hard and it is coming out now on the pitch, you will never score from 30 yards but the sign of a good striker is being in the right place at the right time.
Fantastic support from the sidelines again folks, thanks to Alan for running the line and to Lucy and Robyn who are both out injured but again turned up and cheered the girls on which is great.
We hope Anna is ok and lets look forward now to the last game of our phase one matches against West Bridgford Lightning and see who we will play in the League Cup semi final.
Players of the match : Katie M, Grace, Lucy P
Goals : Georgia, Emily, Saff, Saff, Hannah
Proud of you again.
