What a foul day, we have played in some conditions but they were pretty bad today. Both sides though right from the first kick gave it their all.
Clifton turned up in a nice white kit and went home in a brown one and for some reason some of the Woodlands players thought it would be good fun to jump in the biggest puddle they could find, Pitty the Mums and Dads who will have to wash them.
The match was played in a fantastic spirit by both sets of players, Woodlands played some nice football considering the conditions and to Clifton's credit they never once gave up and their team spirit is second to none. With both sets of players knowing each other so well there was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the game and it was great to see this continue after the final whistle.

Annie : Could'nt do anything with the two goals that Clifton scored but again you showed some great decision making and a good safe pair of hand when you were called upon.

Lucy P : Solid and dependable today, slightly strange for you today having to play without Becky at your side but I think you coped admirably and was unlucky not to score.

Amy I : You have really made the right back spot your own so far this season. I cant remember many ocasions if any where someone got past you.

Ashley : Filled in today at left back in place of the injured Becky. Its a role you are used to and you played very well throughout the match.

Chelsea : Starting to really find your feet now in the side. You played some nice neat football today and it was a shame an injury kept you on the sidelines for the second half.

Saffron : Along with Katie W in the heart of the midfield you kept the ball moving from side to side today very well and managed to pop up in the area to score a well deserved goal.

Katie W : Miss dependable, very solid again today along with Saff. Some of your through balls and all round vision today was superb.

Mia : Without any doubt the first half was the best you have played for Woodlands FC. You seemed much calmer today, very composed with your crosses and created several good openings for others. ( Managers player of the match. )

Emily : With Clifton never relenting you had to really put a shift in today and work hard to get the ball back for the team. I lost count how many times you set up goal chances which is good to see. Your all round game is blossoming and you prove hard to handle for teams week after week.

Katie : I think when you know in your mind that you have the beating of the fullback you become a different player. You listened today and scored six goals, five good finishes and you were creditted with the own goal as you were the last woodlands player to touch it. Combining with Emily and later on Grace on the wing, you were just too much for Clifton too handle today. ( Clifton's player of the match )

Grace : One of the teams characters and you showed that on the field today. You always give it your all no matter where you played on the pitch and proved a good foil for Katie on the right wing today. You also featured highly in the coaches votes for player of the match so well done.

Anna : Its always a special moment when a new player to the team scores. Still not sure of your best position yet but as long as you keep working as hard as you do in training and matches you will do just fine, well done.

Hannah : Really unlucky to not score today, no matter what is thrown at yo,u you still keep smiling and trying your best for the team which is something your team mates recognise and like the other new players, you are settling in really well.

Lucy W : Hard to realise that you have spent the week on crutches. I could see that at times your leg was giving you grief but you soldiered on and more than played your part in a good team performance.

That was possibly the worst weather we have had for some time but as usual we still had an army of supporters to cheer the girls on. Many thanks to each and every one of you.

Praise must also go to Clifton who made a real fight of it from start to finish.

Brilliantly reffed again Alan, and many thanks for setting up the pitch etc. Also a huge thanks to Martin, Dave and Robin who are also invaluable to the team effort.

Many thanks to everyone else, coaches and parents etc for you continued support.

Always proud of you

Dave
