In fine weather the game kicked off and for once we were quick out the blocks and when Saffy found Katie M with a defence splitting ball the next thing we knew the ball had been lashed into the net for the teams first and Katie’s 100th league and cup goal inside 90 seconds.
This really settled the early nerves and the game opened up into an end to end match where both teams had chances to score. After another ball over the top it was Grace who found herself pressurising the defence and when the ball was hit clear Grace who defended from the front all of the first half got her foot in to steer the ball home which gave us a two goal advantage at half time.
The second half was no different, it was end to end stuff with Arnold hitting the post and finding Annie in goal in inspired form again making several key save the best of which was making a double stop whilst flat out.
With the rain now lashing down the girls pressed again but it was Arnold who had the ball in the net but had it ruled out for hand ball in the build up.
The next chance of the game though fell to Georgia who cut across the 18 yard box and drove the ball which bobbled under the unfortunate Arnold keeper.
Annie : Yet again you proved what a good keeper you are, some of the saves you pulled off were amazing. Keep working hard in training and you will only get better.
Ashley : Got to say mate, that was one of your best games today. You were strong in the tackle and took a sore one but asked to go back on which was great to hear. Player of the match.
Becky : Its hard to keep finding words on how well you are playing at the moment. Along side Peggy you make quite a formidable partnership. Your reading of the game is improving all the time. Player of the match.
Lucy P : I appreciated your commitment today mate. You were clearly struggling in training with your knee but still wanted to play on Sunday which is a true sign of our captain.
Mia : Another player suffering with her knee but like Lucy you never want to let anyone down. I know its not your favourite position at right back but you did really well back there. Just rest up now and get ready for next week.
Georgia : There were lots of people again on the sidelines who weren’t there to watch you last week and were full of praise for you. I know you had just played in the morning but your work rate was good and you capped it off with another goal which was great.
Saff : Probably one of the best through balls of the season to set Katie M free to score. You worked really hard for the team in both of the positions you played in but never once mentioned your throat, which I know you have suffered with this week.
Katie W : Great work rate from you again today. You showed lots of your normal passion for the game and won the ball for the team an numerous occasions.
Emily : Yet again two different positions during one game which you coped with admirably. We are used to seeing the attacking side of your game but today defensively you were great.
Grace : Out of all the girls I would say you have benefited the most from our winter indoors sessions. Some of your touches bits of skill were a joy to watch and were enjoyed by the whole touchline.
Katie M : Like a couple of others, you have been off school all this week but were determined to continue your incredible record of never missing a match in the five years you have played. To break the 100 goals in the manner you did with your Mum watching on I know meant a lot to you.
Anna : I realise you had limited chances today but your attitude and willingness to learn is great. With a full summer of training and the way you are developing we will get the best out of you very soon. Keep working hard and you will get you rewards.
Chelsea : You have all the ability now and I know we can use you in a variety of positions but we now need to transfer your training into match days which we will work on. I think you are better than you think you are that’s all. We will get there with you I guarantee.
Lucy W – Robyn – Hannah : The sick bay was still busy this week. Great to see you there supporting the team as ever though. I know Lucy is only a few weeks away from full training and matches, Robyn as ever was there to cheer you all on and we hope Hannah has recovered from being ill on Saturday.
Thanks again to all our helpers, Alan for Reffing and setting up the pitch, you are a top man and the team would not be what it is without you.
Robyn and the whole Allan family for your superb support of the team as always and I long for the day we have two flying wingers.
Thanks to Lucy W who also ventured out to support the girls and hopefully your return to the side is not far away mate.
Everyone else who turned out today in foul weather in the end and supported the girls to a very well earned victory.
You all played your part again and I am a very proud manager of all my players but for today only I must be a proud Dad also, very well done to you katie on playing all 88 league and cup games we have ever played. You have never missed one and I know you are very proud of that and seeing you in bed all week I honestly thought it would end today but your goal was a great team goal and to be fed the ball from another original player and good mate in Saffy to notch your 100th goal was special and is a fantastic achievement but also a credit to the girls you play with every week.
