Woodlands Ladies second game of the season.

After last weeks 4-1 win against Dronfield, Woodlands entertained  Killamarsh another side we hadn't previously played against. The Woodlands side was much changed from our opening fixture with no less than 5 players from the Dronfield victory missing after leaving for University. This gave Michelle her first league match for over a year and a debut for Katie, who was signed on the day.

Woodlands started slowly  but Killamarsh scored with their first attack on goal. Space was opened up down the Woodlands right and the Killamarsh strikers shot just beat Chloe who was in goal due to an injury to Emily & to Sophie moving on to Uni'. Woodlands looked disjointed but  gradually worked their way into the game and were rewarded with 2 goals just before half time. Amy was played through beautifully by Mel and scored with a sweet finish and two minutes later Nia scored a cracker from fully 25 yards.

Woodlands playing into a very strong wind in the second half, played some lovely football and the unselfish Mel & Shannon were creating chances, but Killamarsh stood firm.

Woodlands were pegged back on 73 minutes when a long shot from way outside the box soared over Chloe and into the roof of the net and worse was to come, when Killamarsh took the lead with only 10 minutes to go, a through ball took an unlucky deflection off Betty to set the Killamarsh forward up for a neat finish ifrom inside the box.

However Woodlands were not to be denied and the best move of the match, saw Shannon chip the keeper after being played through by a Mel knock down in the 83rd minute.

Both teams deserve credit for an absorbing game of Football played in a strong wind, Michelle, Katie & Amy all did well for Woodlands who could have stole all 3 points at the end but Mel's strong run and shot was denied by a fine save from the Killamarsh keeper.

Good luck to Killamarsh for the rest of the season.
