Having suffered at the hands of Pegasus over the last couple of seasons, today was always going to be a difficult match. Pegasus are very quick and physical, which makes them hard to play against.
On a very hard surface and with the wind in our faces in the first half, the name of the game was not to concede and if we did, to keep it to a minimum.
To the girls credit though, they held strong through the whole of the first half and still managed to create a couple of openings ourselves, whilst being conscious of not leaving the backdoor open.
Coming in at halftime with the score line at 0-0 was a fantastic effort and set us up very well for the second half.
The girls were pleased with their battling first half performance and knew they were in pole position for the second half with the wind at their backs.
Pegasus to their credit, were straight at it in the second half and put us under immediate pressure but as in the first half, the defence stood firm.
Having been awarded a dubious free kick, Emily floated the ball in, which was headed out by Pegasus but fell to the feet of Katie W, who drove it back into the net via a slight deflection, to open the score. This really inspired Woodlands, who shortly after pressed high up the pitch, threaded the ball through to Saff, who poked home past the advancing keeper.
The game was finally put to bed when Saff was again put clear inside the box and finished coolly into the corner of the net.

Annie : Made some vital stops at key times in the match, didn’t have a great deal to do in the second half but kept alert.

Becky : Very committed today at the back, very brave in the tackle and showed your pace when it was required.

Lucy P : Back to your best today, true captain. Defended well, great throws and never let the Pegasus attackers settle.

Ashley : Never once had to shout across to you, you were positionally very good, defended well and looked really solid.

Robyn : An unusual position for you today but we are conscious of your injured leg. You never looked troubled, showed your pace overlapping Amy I and had an all round good game and hopefully didn’t injure your leg further.

Katie M : Last week you seemed to be back to your best, you were quiet in the first half but burst into life in the second and were unlucky not to score, having hit the post.

Amy I : Your best game so far I would say, you tracked back, got forward, tackled and played some great balls down the line.

Katie W : The best game you have played for Woodlands I would say, great finish for your goal but your midfield play with Saff was immense.

Saff : Two more good goals and a midfield show that was real quality. Your energy levels were superb.

Emily : Great display from  you today, worked very hard upfront and had a hand in most of the goals. Played very well when Peggy went off but your attitude and spirit was excellent today.

Lucy W : The fact that you were in bed early tonight kind of says it all. Your work rate was brilliant and you never gave the Pegasus backline any breathing space.

Grace : Yet again you showed us how versatile you are by playing upfront and not giving their backline any time on the ball, you were busy, held the ball up and looked like you really enjoyed yourself.

Mia : More flashes of your quality, held the ball up well, showed how physical you can be, which is what we want from you but all round you did very well for the team.

Our first cup final and all the coaches and I, am so proud of you all.
