Having had such a long lay off since our last match and two very key players missing, today’s game was always going to be a tough one. Pegasus are always very physical and full of running and so it proved today.
Having been under pressure from the opening whistle, you showed some good spirit, to stop Pegasus playing and started to create some good openings.
Emily fed a great ball out to Robyn, who found herself out on the wing, powered past the full back and smashed home the opening goal. Straight from the kick off though, a penalty was awarded when Amy was adjudged to have fouled the Pegasus winger, fortunately for Woodlands, Annie watched the spot kick fly over the bar.
Woodlands should have really taken heart from that but instead found it difficult to string two passes together and eventually that proved costly again when the Pegasus winger was allowed to run free from the halfway line and drive the shot past Annie in goal to level the scores.
Again we expected a response from the girls and again it didn’t happen, and just before the end of the first half, Pegasus slotted home their second, to leave us a mountain to climb in the second half.
We said at halftime that we wanted a response and to be fair we got one, the girls who were put on in the second half worked really hard but got no reward for their efforts.
Having seen countless chances come and go, it was inevitable that Pegasus would get the next goal and they wrapped up the points with 10 minutes left.

I think for some reason today, the game was already lost in a few players heads before we kicked off, and this is something we must get over. Pegasus are a well organised side but on reflection of the chances, we had as many, if not more but failed to take them.
As we said at the end of the match when we tried to take some positives from it all, some of the players who find themselves as sub sometimes, really upped their game today and some who we expect more from, let themselves down and this will be reflected in next weeks team selection I am sure.

Player of the match : Becky, thought you were very solid at the back today, the game must have been bad because you were heard shouting instructions out, which is not like you but great to hear. Really well played.
