Woodlands continued their good start to the season with a 2-1 victory over a plucky Cotgrave team that had turned over Clipstone 5-1 the week before.
The game was never flowing and good football was at a premium with a bone hard pitch often causing passes to go astray.
Chances were few and far between in a first half that Woodlands had the majority of the possesion without ever looking dangerous. Therefore it was a surprise when Woodlands took the lead on 34 minutes a superb corner from Jess Atkinson was bravely headed towards goal by Betty Hull and Claire Waring had the simple task of scoring from 3 yards.
Woodlands started the 2nd half the brighter, with substitute Sophie Beresford unlucky to be thwarted by Cotgrave's keeper as she raced into the box. Cotgrave began to impose themselves and Sophie Dyson had to be quick off her line as a long ball found the Cotgrave striker in space. Sophie blocking the first effort before Betty Hull cleared the ball away from danger. However Cotgrave were to equalise on 64 minutes after sloppy play in the Woodlands midfield. The ball was given away and another long ball found Sarah Robertson in the clear and she left Sophie Dyson with no chance to bring the scores level.
It could have got worse for Woodlands as Sophie Dyson produced a diving save to stop an effort that was creeping into the corner of the net, but Level it stayed until 4 minutes from time when after shots from Hollie Peat & Shannon Ryan had both been parried by the Cotgrave keeper, Woodlands took the lead from the resultant corner.
Again Jess Atkinson's corner was perfect and after Betty Hull had caused chaos in the 6 yard box Shannon Ryan fired in from virtually under the crossbar.
Cotgrave didn't give in and deep into injury time Katie Paling did brilliantly to clear the ball from off the line after a mix up in the Woodlands defence from a long throw in.
