After last weeks titanic struggle against Flowserve, this was a far better performance from the girls. Woodlands took the lead on 4 minutes when Claire Waring took the ball around the keeper and from an acute angle, squared the ball for Hayley Merritt to slot home from 2 yards out. Everything appeared to be going to plan when Shannon Ryan scored after 9 minutes to increase the lead.
However Castle Donington hit back almost immediately with a goal of their own, scored direct from a free kick just outside the 18 yard box. Shannon Ryan restored the 2 goal advantage with a magnificent shot from outside the box and a fantastic through ball from Betty Hull allowed Ryan to complete her hat trick after only 27 minutes. Both Hayley Merritt & Hollie Peat hit the woodwork before half time as Woodlands continued to press.
In the second half Woodlands added a fifth as Hayley Merritt put in a magnificent cross and Amy Gabbitas playing in midfield charged in to finish beautifully. Merritt added a sixth with a deep cross that beat the keeper and Sophie Beresford fresh from her first goal for the club last week, played a beautiful one two with Claire Waring to score a screamer near the end.
Chloe Pountain made a confident debut at the side of Frankie Watson and the defence again showed why we have only conceded 4 goals in 4 matches.
