Woodlands FC Win Major Fa Grant

It gives Woodlands FC great pleasure to announce that we have won a football foundation grant to “grow the game”. The grant for £5,000 spread over 2-3 years is to grow the number of young people in the club and in the sport. Our application was submitted to focus on growing and supporting our younger teams over this period This is an amazing result and represents another step forward for the Club as a whole. It now means the club overall is better placed to move forward and we need to thank our Vice-Chairman Mark Woodlward for his hours of hard work to secure the grant for the club.

Woodlands FC Under 14's claim League Cup victory

In a rescheduled game (to allow the Under 14’s to represent Derbyshire in the Regional play-offs of the Tesco Girls cup) Woodlands FC lined up for an evening game under floodlights at Calvertons ground to play West Bridgeford. Always a tough opposition, West Bridgeford started the game with real commitment and attacking flair, but Woodlands held firm. Picking up a goal, WB then drew even with a penalty, before Woodlands took a second just before half time in what turned out to be a real end to end classic cup-final. The second half started and Woodlands turned it up another gear with every player in the squad giving their best. Pulling ahead with third and fourth goal, Woodlands Fc won the cup 4-1. Well done all.

Woodlands FC Under 14s travel to Warwick in the Tesco Cup Finals

Woodlands Fc Under 14’s league cup final was postponed to 10th May so that woodlands could take up their place representing Derbyshire in the regional finals of the Tesco U14 cup. In a long day the team played such as Stoke Town, West Bromwich Albion and other strong opposition, and while finishing down the league table, the girls acquitted themselves very well against such opposition and learnt much about how the game is played at the next level – and also that they deserved to be amongst such company. Well done girls.

Woodlands FC Under 11's Black Socks claim League Cup victory

Woodlands FC Under 11 Blacksocks win their league cup against a much improved West Bridgford (the joint champions of division 2). In a tough game it took a while for our girls to take control of the game, and the first goal settled some nerves. 2-0 at half time became 3-0 at full time and the league cup is ours. This team has now won their league three years running and has now also picked up the league cup, a magnificent achievement, and a stage better than last year when they lost in the final to a last minute goal. Congratulations to Tim and the girls.

Woodlands FC Ladies just miss out on League Cup glory

Woodlands Fc Ladies team narrowly miss out  on the League Cup. In the final season of the current manager, and first season in the Derbyshire League after 7 years in the Notts Girls and ladies league, our ladies finished second in the league and won their way into the cup final. In what Terry the manager describes as an epic battle, the game ended 3-2 to Dronfield, who summed up the game by saying “the best team” (Woodlands) lost. Well done girls. A great first season in Derbyshire and a fitting retirement for Terry. Well done girls.

Congratulations to Robyn From the Clubs Under 14s

Phil Green the Arnold Town Mangaer presenting Robyn with her 50th appearance award for Woodlands FC

After missing nearly 18 months of football through injury, Robyn was finally fit enough to play a small part in the teams 1-0 victory over Arnold Town to secure the runners up spot and herself her very well earned 50th appearance for the club. Robyn has been stuck on 47 games well over a year and has worked really hard to get fit and fully deserved her award. Many thanks to all the supporters on the day and to Phil Green from Arnold Town who very kindly agreed to present Robyn with her award, which was very fitting as Arnold were the very first team the girls played in competative football and made it very special for her.

Well done to both teams from all at Woodlands FC

Congratulations to Woodlands FC Ladies who finished Runners Up 2010/11

Congratulations to Woodlands FC Ladies who finished an increadible league campaign in the runners up spot in the DGLL Division 1. With several of the team leaving to start their university courses it was doubtful that they would even have a team at the start of the season. Through the girls, coaches and managements commitment a side was assembled and the results have been nothing short of amazing. To add to their success the girls battled really hard all year and got themselves into the teams very first League Cup Final on May 8th at Matlock Towns ground.

Well done from all at Woodlands FC

Woodlands FC Under 14's Girls added another trophy this weekend to their collection by lifting the Tesco Cup. The girls were 7-0 winners over near neighbours St Georges. The players of St Georges were a credit to their club both on and off the pitch and were unlucky not to see any of their chances converted during the match. Good luck to them in the future with the rest of their league campaign in the Derbyshire Girls and Ladies League

Well done girls from all at Woodlands FC

On Sunday 2nd of May the girls took part in their very first League Cup Final. The match was played at Eagle Valley, the home of Arnold Town. Well done to Calverton M/W who were the girls opponents in the final, the game was very competative and a credit to girls football at this age group. The Woodlands girls eventually ran out 2 - 1 winners to collect their first League Cup Final trophy.

With the Under 10's playing their very first night match at home to Derby County the girls knew that a victory would secure the league championship and a possible league and cup double would be on.
